For the past three days, many trucks have been stranded on NH 44 due to landslides, owing to heavy rain. Along with the trucks, multiple truck drivers and helpers are stuck on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Nagrota.
There are speculations that over a 1000 truck drivers and helpers are stuck on the highway and are in desperate need of help from the government.
In the video posted by a reputed news agency, a truck driver revealed how they are facing difficulties. The driver said, “I am from Punjab and I have been stuck here for the past three days. We have to go 5 to 6 kms in search of food and water. All the money we had has been spent. We request the government to help us”
“We have to walk at least two kilometers to get drinking water. The ration should be supplied to us, the government should help us. Over 1000 trucks are stuck here”, another truck driver added.
As the footage clearly shows, truck drivers and helpers have been dwelling in wet clothes since the past few days and facing a dearth of basic amenities like food and water.
Clearly, this is not the first time when numerous trucks are left stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on account of landslides during the monsoon season. But what others are forgetting is that during such a time when the world is battling with a deadly virus, it becomes nearly impossible for the stuck drivers and helpers to seek help or assistance from the natives.
