Recently, the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone of highway projects worth Rs. 3000 crore via a virtual ceremony. These projects are for the construction of 316 km of highways in Manipur.

The transport ministry said in a statement that the Road Transport, Highways and MSMEs Minister Gadkari is planning to build 13 highway projects and a road safety project in Manipur.

Manipur CM N Biren Singh presided over the function which was attended by multiple ministers from MoRTH, MPs and MLAs.

These roads will provide better connectivity, convenience and economic growth in the state, as per the statements. The project is expected to be completed within 4 years from now.

Further, NHAI has proposed 23 new highways and expressways across several states in the country. The collective length of these 23 highways and expressways which are expected to be completed by 2025, is around 7800 kms. The overall cost of building these roads and highways is estimated to be around Rs. 3.3 Lakh Crore.
