As a measure to reduce road accident cases in India, the transport ministry increased penalties for road rule violations after the new Motor Vehicle Act came into force from September 1, 2019.
Another revision of the Motor Vehicle Act has allowed drivers to show documents online while getting challaned by the traffic police. In short, motorists can now produce documents like RC and DL stored on mobile apps when asked by an official.
However, the documents will be treated legal only if it is stored on these two mobile apps: mParivahan & DigiLocker.
- mParivahan: The details of RC, DL, fitness validity, insurance validity and permit validity are available on a real-time basis on mParivahan app. You only have to enter the DL or the vehicle’s registration number and the official documents will be displayed to you. You need not have an account for retrieving documents from mParivahan
- DigiLocker: It is a documents storing and sharing platform. The biggest advantage of this app is that it can create a locker for keeping all the important documents in one place. You can easily access the stored documents even when offline. All you need to do is create an account on it.
Both DigiLocker & mParivahan apps are designed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways through NIC.
We hope now you will have a better understanding about DigiLocker & mParivahan mobile applications and their correct usage. Please visit our ‘Help Portal’ for more logistics related information.
