The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has mandated all BS-VI compliant motor vehicles to have a 1 cm strip of green colour on top of the existing sticker, carrying details of registration for the vehicles. This existing sticker is basically the third number plate which is colour coded as per the fuel used in the vehicle – petrol or CNG vehicles have a light blue sticker and diesel vehicles have an orange colour sticker.
Please find below the relevant Govt. press release:
Earlier the government, from April 1, 2019, had mandated all motor vehicles to be fitted with tamper-proof, high security registration plates (HSRP), which would serve as the third number plate. It is supposed to be fitted on the inside of the windshield of each newly manufactured vehicle by the manufacturers.
As readers might be aware, the BS-VI emission standards had been mandated by the Indian Govt. with effect from 1st April, 2020. The standards provide for stricter and cleaner emission norms and are at par with the emission standards being followed across the world.
