Ashok Leyland, India’s 3rd biggest Commercial Vehicles Manufacturer yesterday launched its Modular Truck Platform named AVTR, which allows truck buyers to customize their truck as per their need, application, industry, the type of load and the type of road. Further, they can refine the truck by choosing Engine Power, Driveline, Suspension, Cabin Type and Load Body.
Given below are some salient points about the platform, which is supposed to have been built by 450 engineers, putting in 4 million man-hours, tested across 6 million kms of different terrains and with an investment of Rs.500 Crores :
- This is the first such customisable truck platform in India.
- It can support as many as 6 lakh vehicle combinations, as per Ashok Leyland.
- It is BS-VI compliant.
- It is built to support a range of 18.5-55 tons medium and heavy commercial vehicles. AVTR will replace the automaker’s existing M&HCV line-up in India.
The platform is being touted as revolutionary by Ashok Leyland and is aimed to help them grab more market share in the shrinking post-Covid market.
The company’s chief technology officer N Saravanan has described this platform with an interesting analogy:
“The same way you choose the crust on a pizza, is how you order this vehicle.”
