Changing Consumer Demand Patterns to affect Truck Demand

Reading Time: 1 minute read

The Coronavirus pandemic is leading to a significant change in consumer demand behaviour globally. For the trucking community, it is important to understand how their customers i.e. manufacturers are adjusting to these changes, since it will have a direct impact on truck demand. Knowledge of which commodities are in demand will enable truckers to better plan their truck placements.

The demand for consumer appliances, apparel furniture etc has dropped during this pandemic; while the focus has greatly shifted towards personal care products, food and beverages, household goods, medical equipment and other essentials, which have seen a huge surge.

Not only is there a shift in demand across commodities, manufacturers are seeing sudden and unexpected demand spikes due to hoarding tendencies as well as irrational reactions of consumers due to some panic. While manufacturers are trying to predict these demand fluctuations more efficiently and match their supply accordingly, truckers should also start making themselves aware of the same.

WheelsEye suggests truckers be in regular touch with manufacturers to understand demand patterns and accordingly plan their truck allocations.
